Mercy is an undeserved, unearned, unearn-able favor. Mercy is what we crave most when our guilt is exposed, but it’s also what we’re hesitant to extend ourselves when confronted with the guilt of other people. This is the challenge: to be merciful to all–even those who have hurt us; to shower people with mercy and truth in love, not judgment. Jesus showed mercy to all, regardless of differing religion, race, or background. His mercy extended beyond the bounds of his comfortability, as should ours. Though we deserved death for our sins, Jesus endured the cross for our sake, and disciples are called to extend the same mercy God has graciously given us, through His son, to others. We cannot forget that our mission is one, not only of truth and love, but of mercy.
