This week, the sermon beautifully illustrated the profound expression of love and sacrifice as shown in the anointing of Jesus at Bethany. Mary, the sister of Lazarus, anointed Jesus with very expensive perfume, exemplifying her love for Jesus through a tangible, selfless sacrifice. However, the sermon also took us through the contrasting narrative of Judas' betrayal. This narrative underscored the stark dichotomy between selfless and selfish sacrifice, emphasizing the repercussions of self-love and the willingness to sacrifice others for personal gain. The most profound expressions of love and sacrifice are rooted in our personal relationship with God. When we truly love God, our natural response should be to tangibly express this love through sacrifices that further His kingdom. Judas' betrayal highlights the danger of self-love and selfishness, reminding us to continually align our hearts and actions with Jesus' teachings of self-sacrifice and love for others. Every one of us is prone to selfishness, which can pose a significant barrier in our personal relationship with God. However, through faith and trust in Him, we can overcome this and learn to live a life of selfless love and sacrifice.
